Dr. Bruno Dalle Carbonare, President of the Board
Bruno co-founded IPRIS GmbH in 2004 and since then has operated as an advisor and business development expert for the company, as president of the board.
In addition to IPRIS, Bruno has been Chief Executive Officer of BDC – The Business Development Company GmbH – since 1998. BDC is a technology transfer, brokerage and IP strategy consultancy company based in Basel, Switzerland. Prior to this, he spent over 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry. He holds a PhD in cell and molecular biology.
Dr. Steffen Schwarz, CEO and member of the Board
Steffen co-founded IPRIS GmbH in 2004, and has held the Chief Executive Officer position of IPRIS AG since then.
Prior to this he worked at BDC - The Business Development Company - in Basel from 2003 to 2006. Here, he was responsible for Technology Transfer and management of the IP portfolio of BDC’s clients such as the University of Basel and the University Hospital of Basel. His expertise in intellectual property stems from his work at a German patent law firm and postgraduate degree in intellectual property at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETHZ), Switzerland. Steffen graduated from the University of Bonn, Germany, with a Masters in genetics and cell biology, and a PhD in molecular biology. He then spent several years carrying out postdoctoral and academic research in several European research institutes.
Hugo van Buel, member of the Board
Hugo co-founded IPRIS GmbH in 2004 and currently works as a Managing Director within Industry.
Working actively in over 75 countries Hugo brings international expertise as well as financial and management know how. Hugo graduated in engineering from the Institute of Technology EPF-L in Lausanne. After completing a masters degree in engineering Hugo went on to complete an MBA and has subsequently had over 17 years in Industry management.
Marcel Schmocker, Attorney-at-law, LL.M., member of the Board
Marcel joined the board in 2017.
He has a law degree from the University of Berne, Switzerland and a Master of Law from Duke University, NC, USA. He brings 35 years of experience as General Counsel of public and private companies focusing on M&A, Finance, Contracts, Licensing and Compliance. Marcel serves on the board of several Swiss companies.
Birgit Knaack, Senior Head IP Services
Birgit joined IPRIS in early 2012 and is heading the administrative processes in the context of monitoring and payment of renewal fees worldwide.
She also has responsibility for client inquiries concerning national phase applications and European validation procedures as well as other administrative IPR issues.
Prior to joining IPRIS, Birgit worked in several patent law offices in Basel, Hamburg and Munich such as Hogan Lovells, Henkel, Breuer & Partner. She has also worked within patent departments of industrial enterprises such as Tesa EC, a Beiersdorf Company, and in Fraunhofer Gesellschaft - the largest organization for applied research in Europe.
